Walls and the Art thereof

Always a Reason

It’s in every room, staring at you, taunting you, and if you listen really close, you can almost here its’ maniacal laugh designed to intimidate even the bravest of interior decorators.

That wall! That blank, bare, boring, naked, blasted wall. The budding artist that so happens to be my oldest daughter will be quick to tell you that a blank space anywhere, to her, is like a kid with a brand new coloring book.

I personally, have always had trouble in both lives with figuring out the science (or art) of decorating expanses just as these. Not that it was a huge space not really, this is Hive’s latest build for the Wayward Winter event which has started by the way. It has the vaulted ceilings going for it, which I love, loovvvee (that’s in my sing songy voice can you tell?) and the framing is a great dark wooded texture that’s not so ‘beechy’ thankfully.

Beechy is good for the beach, eh?

So I’m guessing this is where I type a list of tips or some such, but really when you get down to it,  you can put up anything your heart desires. Tapestries, paintings, collages, word art, vines, ivy or heck, sometimes I throw on a different texture (perhaps brick or another wood) for a nice ‘break’.

Okay I lied, here’s one tip I’ve learned over the years that’s so painfully obvious, you’re likely to roll your eyes at me, and that’s okay. There’s a collection basket at the door.

Whichever style of interior decorating you’re most comfortable with, keep your art/frames/tapestries, whatevers at about the same height as the entry way, doorway, top of the windows, and if you must go higher like say in a room with vaulted ceilings, perhaps think about keeping one of the items in line with said, doorways, top of windows, etc, etc.

So that was free, I stole that from a design book somewhere, in some dark and dank Seattle bookstore no doubt.

Any questions, comments, concerns for certain pets in boxes, or if you just wanna chat, feel free to leave a mess (age) in the box below. Thanks for stopping by on your weekly blogscroll and remember, you too can over come the challenges of Blank Wall syndrome.

  1. I love reading your blogs, you always give me the chuckles with your witty writing! And once again, beautiful image. I had to click on over to Flickr to check it out in it’s large size glory. The lighting is gorgeous! I picture light streaming through windows in the wall out of frame to the left, with some houseplants soaking it up. Lovely scene setup. When you get your readers to imagine the rest of the room you know you’re good. You’re great! 🙂
